Our Story

The Modern Day Pirates set sail in 2016, when Keelhaul Crowley and Captain James Shorthshanks threw together some rough pirate outfits and ventured into the wild in search of fun and mischief. What started as two friends plundering the locals quickly turned into something more—a living, growing crew of like-minded rogues.

Their early adventures, some caught on camera, can still be found on our YouTube channel, capturing the chaotic spirit of those first days.

As the crew slowly expanded, so did the creativity. What began with costume pieces turned into a passion for crafting—handmade baldrics, belts, leatherwork, props, and more. What we couldn’t find, we built ourselves. Before long, we were setting up shop at pirate fests and events, offering our custom creations to other sea-faring souls.

Over the years, we've grown from two costumed troublemakers into a full crew of entertainers, volunteers, and makers. We attend pirate festivals, local events, and anywhere that could use a little pirate spirit—and a lot of rum.

We're not a reenactment group or a scripted show. We're living the pirate life, one wild adventure at time ...
